Republic of Moldova Leadership Expressing Condolence to American People

September 12, 2001 – President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin sent on Wednesday his condolences to the President of the United States George W. Bush following the horrendous terrorist attack in New York and Washington, DC. Moldovan President emphasized that this event is a tragedy and a cruel challenge to all the inhabitants of our planet and called upon the international community to pull together their efforts in combating the common evil of terrorism and extremism.

During his meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, the head of state offered Moldova’s compassionate assistance to the United States in overcoming the consequences of this terrible tragedy. “Although our material resources are very limited, he said, we are ready to help by sending the most needed specialists.”

The head of the American diplomatic mission, Ambassador Rudolph Perina, said he was deeply moved by the continuous flow of persons coming to the Embassy or calling to express their deep compassion and condolences about the loss of so many human lives.

Messages of condolences were also sent by the Speaker of Moldovan Parliament Eugenia Ostapciuc, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicolae Dudau.

Immediately after the terrorist acts were committed in the USA the special anti-terrorist units of the Information and Security Service and the appropriate police forces set a guard on the diplomatic missions of the USA and other western countries.
